Why we collect your information

We are authorised by the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 to collect the information requested on the Notification of conversion of a MEC group to a consolidated group form.

We will use this information to convert an existing MEC group to a consolidated group. If your form is incomplete, incorrect or needs checking:

  • it may delay processing
  • we may ask you to complete a new form.

We are also authorised by the Taxation Administration Act 1953 to ask for tax file numbers (TFNs). You are not required by law to provide one. However, not providing one may delay processing.

We collect some personal information about you because you signed the form. This enables us to ensure you have authority within the company to complete the form. It also allows us to contact you if we need more information.

If you have an Australian business number (ABN), some information on this form may be collected under the A New Tax System (Australian Business Number Act) 1999. We will use it to update your details on the Australian Business Register (ABR)External Link. Where authorised by law, we may also make selected information publicly available or disclose it to a wide range of government agencies, including Commonwealth, state and local government.

Where authorised by law, we may give this information to other government departments and agencies, including:

  • Australian Bureau of Statistics
  • Services Australia
  • law enforcement agencies.

We may also provide your information to overseas treaty partners under international tax agreements.
