• Self-education expenses calculator

The Self-education expenses calculator will check your eligibility for, and give you an estimate of, the deduction you can claim at the Work-related self-education expenses question on your tax return.

Changes to the law from 1 July 2011 mean that you can no longer claim deductions against certain government assistance payments. This means you cannot claim a deduction for self-education expenses that relate to your receipt of Austudy, ABSTUDY or Youth Allowance.

    Information you will need

You will need to enter amounts for all of the eligible self-education expenses you incurred during the income year, including amounts for the decline in value of depreciating assets used for self-education purposes.

This calculator gives an estimate based on the information you have provided.
