    Can I use the calculator tool?

    Employers

    Employers can use the calculator tool to calculate SG contributions. Using the drop-down box on the first screen, you can select to apply the minimum SG rate or increase the rate based on the arrangement you have with your employees.

    Employees

    Employees should use the employee SG calculator tool, which is designed to help you determine whether you are eligible for SG contributions and whether your employer is paying the correct amount.

    How long will it take?

    The calculator tool will take about 1 to 5 minutes to complete.

    What information do I need before I start using the calculator tool?

    You will need:

    • the personal details of your employees, including their name (optional) and super fund details (optional)
    • the amount that superannuation is payable on for each employee for the period.

    Entering your data

    As an employer, you should be aware of the SG eligibility criteria and the maximum contribution base.

    The calculator has been designed so you can calculate SG contributions weekly, fortnightly, monthly or quarterly, based on your business needs. Consequently, this calculator tool does not incorporate the SG eligibility criteria or the maximum contribution base.

    If you are unsure if an employee is eligible for the SG, use the SG eligibility decision tool prior to using this calculator.

    When you are calculating contributions, you may need to take into account the maximum super contribution base.

    Contributions calculation

    The calculator tool displays your calculation and will provide:

    • sub-totals of the SG amounts payable to each superannuation fund
    • the total of all SG contributions payable.

    You can print the contributions calculation for your records.

    If you are late in meeting your super obligations, the Superannuation guarantee charge (SGC) statement and calculator tool will calculate your SGC liability and prepare the SGC statement to be lodged with the ATO.

    How do I print the contributions calculation?

    To print the summary, you must have access to a printer.
