    The file transfer function allows businesses and tax professionals to lodge electronic files securely through ATO online services.

    With file transfer you can:

    You will need business management software to generate your reports in a supported file format.

    Note: The reports that you can lodge depend on your permissions.

    How to use file transfer

    To use file transfer:

    • generate a file in a supported format using your business management software
    • compress your files if you want to send multiple files at once and make uploading faster
    • log in to Online services for business or if you are a tax or BAS agent, log in to Online services for agents    
      • Online services for business – select Lodgments then File transfer
      • Online services for agents – select Reports and forms then File transfer. Select Lodge in the banner to be navigated to the Lodge file screen
    • test and lodge your file.

    After you submit your file:

    • a receipt of your file will be confirmed and it will be validated for errors
    • you'll be notified by email when the file has been validated (if you've chosen this option) – you can also check the status of your transfer by opening File transfer and locating the report
    • in Online services for agents – select Reports and forms then File transfer and select the drop-down arrow against the submitted file to view the validation report, which will show that your file has been either      
      • successfully tested or lodged
      • completed with warnings
      • rejected with errors
