  • File transfer

    The file transfer function allows businesses and tax professionals to lodge electronic files securely through our portals and in Online services for agents.

    With file transfer you can:

    • lodge a range of reports quickly and securely through our online portals and Online services for agents
    • send large files and multiple files as a single compressed file
    • test your files for errors before lodging.

    What you need:

    • business management software to generate your reports in a supported file format
    • an online security credential – either
      • AUSkey or Manage ABN Connections (set up in myGov) to log in to an ATO portal
      • AUSkey to log in to Online services for agents.           
       

    Note: The reports that you can lodge depend on your permissions.

    How to use file transfer:

    • generate a file in a supported format using your business management software
    • compress your files if you want to send multiple files at once and make uploading faster
    • log in to the Business PortalExternal Link (alternatively, if you are a tax agent, use the Tax Agent Portal or our Online services for agents) using your online security credential
    • in portals, select File transfer Lodge file in the left menu
    • in Online services for agents, select Reports and forms then File transfer. Select Lodge in the banner to be navigated to the Lodge file screen.
    • test and lodge your file.

    After you submit your file:

    • a receipt of your file will be confirmed and it will be validated for errors
    • you'll be notified by email when the file has been validated (if you've chosen this option)
    • in portals, select File transfer File status and select the link to download the validation report
    • in Online services for agents, select Reports and forms then File transfer and select the dropdown arrow against the submitted file to view the validation report, which will show that your file has been           
      • successfully tested or lodged
      • completed with warnings
      • rejected with errors.
