    SMSF event-based reporting framework starts 1 July
    From 1 July 2018, all self-managed super funds (SMSFs) must report events that affect their members' transfer balances using the Transfer balance account report (TBAR). Read the latest information on our website and ensure you are ready.

    Reminder for SMSFs: transitional CGT relief option ends soon
    Self-managed super fund trustees only have until Monday 2 July 2018 to lodge their 2016–17 SMSF annual return, including, where applicable, an election for transitional capital gains tax relief.

    We have created a new public advice and guidance product specifically for SMSF trustees and their advisors, called an SMSF Regulator's Bulletin (SMSFRB). Our first SMSFRB, about the use of reserves by SMSFs, is now available.

    The ATO has deferred the due date for lodgment of self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) annual returns for the 2016–17 financial year. The new deadline for lodgment of these returns is now 30 June 2018.

    Removal of the anti-detriment provision from 1 July 2017
    An anti-detriment payment (also called the tax saving amount) is an additional lump sum amount that may be paid to an eligible dependant when a lump sum death benefit is paid. The payment represents a refund of the 15% contributions tax paid by the deceased member over their lifetime. The anti-detriment provision has now been removed with effect from 1 July 2017.
