We expect to notify applicants in January 2027, with membership expected to commence from January 2027.

Key criteria

Applicants should address the following key criteria:

  • capacity and commitment to attend meetings
  • experience working as a business representative, professional association or tax professional in the energy and resource sector, including duration and nature of experience
  • the association or group whose views/challenges you can represent and your capacity to tap into peer views to assist you to identify and raise key issues and challenges facing the industry
  • how you intend to use your skills and experience to improve ERWG outcomes – this includes your willingness and ability to actively contribute to ERWG discussions, to constructively challenge, and to provide insights and suggestions that assist the ATO to improve the tax and superannuation systems, and the experience of the energy and resource sector.

About ERWG membership

Membership reflects the broader community with which the ATO seeks to consult and comprises representatives from different but relevant sectors of the community. Membership is at the discretion of the ERWG Chair and is subject to the relevance of a stakeholder's knowledge and expertise of the subject matter, and their potential to contribute to outcomes.

Membership expectations

Members will actively contribute to the work of the group and abide by the ATO consultation framework. Expectations of members include:

  • Providing input on issues and processes affecting the energy and resources sector in relation to the administration of tax and superannuation. They will identify emerging issues or developments that may be of concern to the sector in relation to meeting tax and super obligations and identify opportunities to improve administration of Australia’s tax and super systems.
  • While the ERWG operates in an environment of transparency, there may be circumstances where members will be asked to limit the sharing or dissemination of information. Members must also disclose any matters that could be perceived as, or are, conflicts of interest.
  • Successful nominees will be required to complete an integrity declaration annually.

Membership commitment

Members are appointed for 2 years. The time commitment required is one day for attendance at face-to-face or online ERWG meeting, plus pre-reading.

Short, ad-hoc meetings may be conducted outside formal meeting times where appropriate, but attendance is not compulsory and is subject to your availability.

Payment

Members will not be paid or reimbursed by the ATO for the cost of their time spent attending meetings or attending to related issues.

Professional association members are required to meet their own costs of attendance at meetings.
