Payday Super Working Group key messages 12 March 2026

Key topics discussed at the Payday Super Working Group meeting 12 March 2026.

Published 13 May 2026

Payday Super draft correspondence

Members reviewed draft correspondence intended to support early intervention and encourage employers to self-correct unpaid superannuation guarantee amounts under Payday Super. Feedback from members focused on clarity and usability of the draft letters.

Voluntary disclosure statement

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) outlined its proposed first year approach to voluntary disclosures and the alignment with the compliance approach outlined in Practical Compliance Guideline PCG 2026/1 Payday Super - first year ATO compliance approach.

The approach is intended to support employers and reduce administrative effort during the initial period.

Industry presentations - Employer readiness

The Association for Payroll Specialists outlined its approach to preparing members for Payday Super, noting that engagement to date has focused on building general awareness rather than delivering detailed technical training.

The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry provided an overview of its engagement with businesses on Payday Super, describing a federated communication model delivered through state chambers and industry associations. This approach includes the use of fact sheets, ready reckoners and technical guidance designed to translate policy settings into practical business impacts.

Technical Working Groups

Early New Payments Platform activity through SuperStream is underway, with successful day-zero payment processing observed and a marked increase in transaction volumes.

Technical build and testing activities continue across SuperStream and Single Touch Payroll (STP), including remediation of messaging artefacts, improved error messaging, and preparation for upcoming message implementation guide changes, noting some short delays to interoperability testing.

The ATO is progressing STP readiness engagement with digital service providers and addressing identified guidance gaps through targeted technical consultation with working group members.

Outreach to Small Business Superannuation Clearing House users is ongoing, with updated guidance and tools now available to support employers to transition to an alternate service and download their data.
