Compliance strategy

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) provided an update on its Payday Super compliance strategy, outlining its risk-based approach to supporting employers to meet their obligations, correct genuine mistakes early and address higher-risk non-compliance.

An implementation update was provided showing continued strong employer adoption of Payday Super. Indicators remain strong including qualifying earnings reporting, increased contribution volumes and low error rates across the system.

  • administrative impacts
  • contribution processing and reconciliation
  • data quality
  • self-managed superannuation fund contribution issues
  • member verification requests.

Members noted that increased transaction volumes were generally being processed successfully across the ecosystem.

Discussion highlighted the need for continued collaboration across:

  • employers
  • funds
  • clearing houses
  • gateways
  • software providers
  • and intermediaries to address emerging operational issues and support consistent implementation of Payday Super.
