JobKeeper

Last updated 25 May 2023

The JobKeeper Payment scheme was introduced to help businesses significantly impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19).

This section includes JobKeeper statistics taken from business monthly declarations lodged by entities through myGov or the Business Portal. The statistics show information on entities and individuals by:

  • state/territory
  • industry
  • age
  • sex.

Entities include businesses, not-for-profits or religious institutions who are employers or who received JobKeeper payments on behalf of an eligible business participant (EBP) or eligible religious practitioner (ERP).

An EBP is an individual who is actively engaged in the operation of the business but is not an employee of the business. There can only be one EBP for an entity.

An ERP is a religious practitioner associated with a registered religious institution.

Entities can include individuals who are sole traders.

Statistics for individuals in this section covers employees, EBPs and ERPs who were included in a JobKeeper claim by an entity.

Unlike most statistics in this publication, the JobKeeper statistics are shown by month and/or phase. There were 3 main phases of JobKeeper:

  • JobKeeper phase 1 – 30 March to 27 September 2020
  • JobKeeper extension 1 – 28 September 2020 to 3 January 2021
  • JobKeeper extension 2 – 4 January to 28 March 2021.

The JobKeeper extension covered the latter 2 phases of JobKeeper. The rate of payment changed in the JobKeeper extension and was split into 2 tiers.
