We've updated our web guidance to help eligible companies understand the steps required to apply for the Hydrogen Production Tax Incentive (HPTI).
The HPTI is a refundable tax offset that supports companies producing renewable hydrogen in Australia by providing an offset of $2 per kilogram of eligible hydrogen produced. The incentive forms part of the Australian Government's Future Made in AustraliaExternal Link package and is designed to help grow Australia's renewable hydrogen industry as the market develops.
To be eligible, both the company and the hydrogen produced must meet the HPTI eligibility requirements. The incentive is jointly administered by the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) and the ATO. To claim the offset through their company tax return, companies must first complete the required certification and registration processes with the CER.
If your company intends to claim the HPTI, you should review the eligibility requirements and engage with the CER early to ensure the necessary certifications are in place before you lodge a claim.
For more information on eligibility requirements and the application instructions see, Hydrogen Production Tax Incentive.
