Now is a good time to review who can access your not-for-profit (NFP) organisation's information.
Outdated authorisations or incorrect details can increase security risks, while regular checkups help keep your NFP secure. Having correct details also ensures we can contact you when needed.
Three simple checks you can do
1. Review authorisations in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM)
If you’re a principal authority or authorisation administrator, use RAMExternal Link to check who is authorised to act on behalf of your NFP.
Ensure the right people have the right level of access for their role and promptly update or remove access when roles change, or volunteers or staff leave.
2. Review permissions in Access Manager
RAM allows you to set who can act on behalf of the business, Access Manager allows you to set what they can do in certain ATO services.
Use Access Manager to manage permissions for those authorised to access Online services for businessExternal Link and the Australian Business Register (ABR)External Link on behalf of your NFP. If employees have access to secure information in ATO online services, use Access ManagerExternal Link to regularly review their permissions.
3. Keep your NFP details up to date on the ABR
You must update your Australian business number (ABN) detailsExternal Link on the ABR within 28 days of becoming aware of a change.
Keeping associates and contact details up to date helps prevent unauthorised access and ensures government agencies can provide timely, targeted support when needed. Learn more at Notifying us of changes to your not-for-profit.
Tip: Set a reminder to regularly check RAM, Access Manager and the ABR, to help keep your NFP secure and compliant.
