Do you provide services via the government payments program?

Service providers receiving government payments must meet their tax, superannuation, and registry obligations.

Published 29 January 2026

If your business receives payments to provide services such as healthcare, disability support or child care under a Commonwealth program, you need to:

  • keep accurate records, and
  • report all government payments program (GPP) income you receive on your tax return.

What is the GPP?

The GPP is a cross-agency program which helps service providers who receive government payments meet their tax, superannuation, and registry obligations.

How does it work?

We work collaboratively with GPP-participating agencies to:

  • collect accurate data on service providers receiving government payments
  • identify and educate service providers who may not be meeting their tax obligations
  • promote voluntary compliance with registration, lodgment, reporting and payment obligations.

What's changed?

We’ve updated our GPP data-matching program protocol to better detect non-compliance and ensure a level playing field for all service providers.

We’ll also notify you and your tax agent to report all GPP income when lodging your tax return.

Our commitment to the Fraud Fusion Taskforce (FFT)

We are a member agency of the FFT which is a multi-agency initiative to combat fraud and serious organised crime – particularly targeting abuse of government payment programs.

Our commitment to strengthening payments integrity in government programs is reinforced through our work in the GPP and collaborating with participating agencies.

Under the FFT, we're piloting a project to support the government payments tax reporting requirements. This aims to:

  • raise awareness of the program
  • improve understanding of reporting obligations
  • promote voluntary compliance among service providers.

This will support the broader work we do as part of the GPP.
