Excise remission scheme and WET producer rebate cap increase

Brewers, distillers and winemakers can access higher excise remission and WET rebate caps from 1 July 2026.

Published 3 July 2026

If you’re an eligible wine producer or alcohol manufacturer, increased financial support announced in the 2025-26 Federal Budget is about to kick in. Review the changes now and get ready to claim.

From 1 July 2026, the maximum amount you can access under the relevant schemes will increase by $50,000, lifting the caps to $400,000 per financial year for the:

  • excise remission available to eligible alcohol manufacturers
  • Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) producer rebate for eligible wine producers.

What does this mean for you?

The increased caps will apply automatically from 1 July. If you’re already eligible for either scheme, you don’t need to reapply, change how you claim or submit any extra paperwork.

If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, it’s a good idea to check the eligibility criteria for the relevant scheme to make sure you’re able to benefit from the increased caps.
