Three simple checks to help keep your business details secure

Checks in RAM, Access Manager, and the ABR help prevent fraud and ensure only the right people act for your business.

Published 4 February 2026

Running a small business means you’re often juggling many responsibilities.

But did you know outdated authorisations or incorrect details in RAM, Access Manager, or the ABR can increase the risk of fraud or unauthorised access to your business information?

Taking the time to regularly review who can access your information can help you reduce these risks keeping your business secure and compliant.

What you need to do

We have three simple checks you can do now.

Tip: Set up a reminder to do this regularly.

Review authorisations in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM)

If you’re a principal authority or authorisation administrator, use RAM to check who is authorised to act on behalf of your business.

Ensure the right people have the right level of access for their role, and promptly update or remove access when roles change or staff leave.

Review permissions in Access Manager

Use Access Manager to manage permissions for who can access Online services for business and the Australian Business Register (ABR). This ensures sensitive actions are limited to the right people.

RAM allows you to set who can act on behalf of the business, Access Manager allows you to set what they can do in certain ATO services.

Regularly review employee permissions in Access Manager, particularly where access to secure information is involved.

Keep your business details up to date on the ABR

You must update your Australian business number (ABN) details on the Australian Business Register (ABR) within 28 days of becoming aware of a change.

Keeping associates and contact details up to date helps prevent unauthorised access and ensures government agencies can provide timely, targeted support when needed. For more information and to update your details visit Update your ABN detailsExternal Link.
