Will, Executive Assistant
'Being an Executive Assistant proved to be one of the most influential roles in shaping my professional journey. As an Executive Assistant, I gained unparalleled exposure to senior leadership, complex decision-making, and the inner workings of the ATO.
‘Building strong, trusted relationships across the agency not only strengthened my personal brand, but also gave me the confidence and capability to pursue broader leadership opportunities. For anyone considering an Executive Assistant role at the ATO, I can confidently say it’s more than a support role, it’s a genuine career pathway.
‘If you’re curious, ambitious, and willing to learn, being an Executive Assistant can open doors you may not yet see. Start the process now – you’ll build a rewarding career while making a meaningful contribution to the community and government.’
Ernie, Executive Assistant
'After working as an Executive Assistant in the private sector, I joined the APS looking for an opportunity to use my skills in a role that contributed to something bigger. The transition was smoother than I expected, as many of the skills I had developed over the years (organisation, relationship management, adaptability, and problem solving) transferred directly into the APS environment.
Another unexpected benefit has been the work life balance. The APS has shown me that it’s possible to have a rewarding and challenging career while still maintaining a healthy balance outside of work.
The flexibility and support I've experienced are unlike anything I had in the corporate world, and it has had a positive impact on both my professional and personal life.'
Angela, Executive Officer
‘I think everyone should have a go at being an Executive Assistant at one point in their career. It is a job that is often overlooked but in practice provides you with so many opportunities and exposes you to different aspects of an organisation.
‘You get to help people, problem solve and strategically think on a daily basis, all while juggling admin tasks that are critical to the delivery of the organisation. No one day is the same and I love the variety and excitement that can bring.
‘I have been both an Executive Assistant and Executive Officer in the ATO and I love coming to work every day. The people and relationships I have built make it an incredible place to work.’
