• Not-for-profit Stewardship Group

The Not-for-profit Stewardship Group (NFPSG) was established in November 2013 to consider matters of strategic importance to not-for-profit clients.

The group includes members that represent a broad spectrum of not-for-profit clients, expanding our previous charity-only focus.

The ATO consultation protocol underpins the consultation framework arrangements.

The NFPSG is one of eight stewardship groups we operate. The group fosters strategic discussions about the major issues impacting not-for-profit organisations and their representatives with key stakeholders from the not-for-profit community.

The NFPSG is an opportunity for not-for-profit representatives to engage with our senior leaders and help improve the not-for-profit client experience in the tax and super systems. The group is not a decision-making committee and its deliberations are not binding on us.

Members are drawn mainly from not-for-profit organisations and groups that represent or advise not-for-profit organisations, including peak bodies. Our focus is on ensuring membership represents a broad cross-section of the Australian not-for-profit community.

    Key focus areas

The key focus areas for the NFPSG are:

    • identifying opportunities to improve the tax and super systems – importantly, this includes making it easier for not-for-profit organisations and their representatives to access the concessions to which they are entitled and to meet their obligations
    • gaining insights into current issues not-for-profit organisations and their representatives face
    • identifying emerging issues or developments that may be of concern to not-for-profit organisations and their representatives
    • partnering with the not-for-profit community to find appropriate solutions for issues raised and to improve the not-for-profit client experience in the tax and super systems
    • sharing key ATO messages with the not-for-profit community.

    2017 meeting dates

The group meets in person three times a year in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.

Our meeting dates and locations for 2017 are:

    • 8 March 2017 in Sydney
    • 19 July 2017 in Melbourne
    • 8 November 2017 in Canberra
