Linking the ATO to your myGov account

How you link to and access ATO online and ATO communications from your myGov Inbox after 1 June 2019 will depend on when and how you confirm your identity when signing into your myGov account.

If you confirm your identity after 1 June 2019

If you link the ATO to your myGov account on or after 1 June 2019, you must confirm your identity by using myGov security codes or the myGov access app to access ATO online and ATO communications from your myGov Inbox.

If you confirm your identity before 1 June 2019

If you confirm your identity using secret questions and answers before 1 June 2019, you can continue to access ATO online and ATO communications from your myGov Inbox. To improve your online security, you should use myGov security codes or the myGov access app to confirm your identity.

However, if you linked the ATO to your myGov account before 1 June 2019 and confirmed your identity using myGov security codes or the myGov access app, you will have to keep using the myGov security codes or the myGov access app to access ATO online and ATO communications from your myGov Inbox.

If you later change to using secret questions and answers to confirm your identity, you will not be able to access ATO online and ATO communications from your myGov Inbox and we will send your communications to your address we have on record.

Using your voiceprint to access online services

Once you have set up your myGov account and linked the ATO, you will have the opportunity to enrol and use your voiceprint in the ATO app for fast, easy and secure access to our online services.

To enrol your voiceprint, simply log into our online services for individuals through the app and follow the prompts. Once enrolled, you can use your voice to verify your identity the next time you use our app or phone us.

MyTax is available for all individuals including sole traders. This video will help sole traders understand how to complete the business section in myTax.
