The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is hosting the 54th Study Group on Asia-Pacific Tax Administration and Research (SGATAR) Annual Meeting this week in Brisbane.
SGATAR seeks to enhance the cooperation of tax systems from the Asia-Pacific region and contribute to the smooth development of trade and investment.
The 2025 Annual Meeting will focus on 3 key themes:
- Fostering dialogue – providing a platform for open dialogue and exchange of best practices among tax administrators, policymakers and researchers.
- Enhancing knowledge-sharing – facilitating the sharing of insights, experiences, and research findings to promote innovation and improvement in tax administration.
- Strengthening networks – fostering meaningful connections and partnerships between tax authorities, academic institutions, and industry experts to support ongoing collaboration beyond the event.
The SGATAR Annual Meeting will involve more than 200 delegates including Commissioners and delegates from 19 tax administrationsExternal Link, observers and international organisations like the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
There will be a broad-ranging agenda, covering tax crime and fraud, artificial intelligence and tax reform. In addition to this, working groups will look deeper into topics such as transfer pricing, challenges arising from digitalisation of tax administrations and tax compliance risk management.
The ATO is looking forward to hosting this year’s SGATAR Annual Meeting and contributing to stronger ties with other tax jurisdictions from around our region.
