ATO response to the Tax Ombudsmans review report into Online Services for Agents

ATO response to the Tax Ombudsman's review report into the ATO's Online Services for Agents.

Published 20 August 2026

The Tax Ombudsman’s review report into the Australian Taxation Office’s (ATO) Online Services for Agents (OSfA) made 3 recommendations and the ATO has agreed with all.

We acknowledge the report’s findings and the opportunities identified to enhance self-service capabilities, improve transparency around prioritisation decisions, and strengthen digital engagement channels for agents.

Registered agents play an important role in the administration of Australia’s tax and superannuation systems, and we recognise the challenges they can experience when digital services do not fully meet their operational needs.

The ATO operates in a complex environment and must balance a range of competing priorities, including legislative obligations, security requirements, service delivery commitments and longer-term transformation initiatives. Within this context, we remain committed to working collaboratively with agents and their representative bodies to identify and deliver improvements that reduce administrative burden, enhance the digital experience and provide lasting benefits for agents, taxpayers and the broader tax system.

As a key priority in our 2026–27 corporate plan, we will continue strengthening partnerships with the tax profession to improve readiness, manage risks and support secure, trusted digital services.

We look forward to continuing working with the Tax Ombudsman to improve the experience of agents and taxpayers.
