The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has announced the winners of the 2021 Tax, Super + You competition. 474 high school students from across Australia developed creative projects that highlighted tax and super. The winning students will share in the total cash prize pool of $7,600.
This year a record of 261 entries were received from individuals and groups. Students challenged themselves creatively and delivered raps, comics, sketches, stop motion videos, animations, dioramas and more!
Personal finance commentator and author Effie Zahos was on the judging panel this year. The judging panel had the difficult task of selecting the winners based on four factors – originality, execution, value and relevance.
“The competition has inspired some enthusiastic students to come up with some very creative ways to unpack tax and superannuation. I was blown away by the level of financial literacy and the dedication put into the project. I congratulate the winning entries on their success” Ms Zahos said.
In the junior category, Perth-based year 7 student Elizabeth Webb scored first place for her stop motion Lego video about tax and super. The judges loved that way Elizabeth was able to tell an entertaining story with Lego about so many different aspects of tax and super.
Adelaide-based year 11 student Sarah Bosboom was awarded first among the seniors, by showcasing her creativity and passion for film-making, acting and economics. The judges loved how Sarah used humour and different personas to demonstrate the impacts of tax and super through different life stages and experiences.
