• Working out your fuel tax credits

Before you can claim your fuel tax credits on your BAS, you need to work out your fuel tax credits and what records you need to keep.

Fuel tax credit rates change regularly so you should check the rate each time you do your BAS.

The amount of fuel tax credits you can claim depends on when you acquired the fuel, what fuel you use and the activity you use it in. You will need to do separate calculations for the different fuel tax credit rates.

We have tools to help you work out your claim online including a fuel tax credit calculator (which is also available in the ATO app) and a downloadable calculation worksheet.

We have also introduced simplified ways to work out your fuel tax credit claims.
