About the Digital Partners Stewardship Group

The Digital Partners Stewardship Group is one of the stewardship groups operated by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), as a means of improving client experience and the administration of Australia’s tax, super and registry systems.

The group provides an opportunity for strategic discussion to improve the administration and operation of the tax and super systems into the future.

A significant share of interactions with the tax and super systems now occur through digital products, platforms and embedded services, shaping how obligations are met and how the system performs.

The group considers systemic issues and strategic matters relating to how digital providers and platforms influence the operation and performance of the tax and super systems:

  • identifying opportunities to improve the tax and super systems to make it easier to get things right and hard not to, through an understanding of how digital service providers and platforms shape system outcomes
  • gaining insights into issues faced by digital service providers and platforms to improve future processes and system design
  • supporting a more seamless taxpayer experience by improving how obligations, reporting and interactions are embedded within digital tools, platforms and business processes
  • identifying risks, dependencies and opportunities arising from digital environments and how they interact with ATO systems
  • supporting coordination of system changes where effective implementation relies on digital providers and platform.
