How to nominate for membership of the Large Business Stewardship Group.

Nominate to become a member of the LBSG

We are calling for expressions of interest from heads of tax of large businesses that are in the Top 100 and Top 1,000 programs to become members of the ATO's Large Business Stewardship Group (LBSG).

To submit an EOI:

  • prepare a 500-word statement addressing the key criteria
  • submit with your curriculum vitae (2–3 page maximum) to LBSG@ato.gov.au with the subject line 'EOI – Large Business Stewardship Group Membership'
  • nominations close 17 October 2025

We expect to notify applicants in November 2025.

Key criteria

Applicants should address the following key criteria:

  • a head of tax of a large business covered by either the Top 100 or Top 1,000 Justified Trust programs
  • experience within the large business sector
  • capacity to consult with, advocate on behalf of, and share information with large businesses on matters relating to administration of Australia’s tax, super and registry systems
  • ability to provide feedback and insights to assist the ATO in delivering professional, contemporary, and tailored services for large businesses
  • commitment to attend meetings
  • independence from government interests.

Associations seeking membership are required to address key criteria on behalf of their association and nominated representative.

About LBSG membership

Membership is intended to reflect the broad large business sector and includes representatives from large businesses, advisers and industry groups.

We encourage applications from representatives of large businesses who are interested in bringing their skills and perspectives to the group. See Large Business Stewardship Group members for current members.

Membership is at the discretion of the ATO co-chair.

LBSG membership expectations

Members will actively contribute to the work of the group and abide by the ATO Consultation Framework. Members of the LBSG will occupy a position of trust and will need to commit to upholding the Charter of the group and act with integrity through annual declaration. Expectations of members include:

  • providing input on issues and processes affecting the large business sector in relation to the administration of the tax and super systems
  • identifying emerging issues or developments that may be of concern to the large business sector in relation to meeting tax and super obligations
  • identifying opportunities to improve the administration of Australia's tax and super systems
  • where a member is representing an association or organisation:
    • providing the views of their association, profession or organisation
    • communicating the outcomes of the meetings to their association, profession or organisation’s members
  • engaging in good faith and in a transparent matter, demonstrating a mutual respect for the expertise, contributions and role of other members
  • signing an annual integrity declaration which includes an agreement to meet their tax, superannuation and registry obligations and demonstrate integrity
  • disclosing any matters that could be perceived to be, or are, conflicts of interest and taking appropriate action to manage or mitigate those conflicts
  • maintaining confidentiality of information provided as required
  • meeting legislative requirements regarding their personal tax obligations
  • attending meetings or, in a timely manner, notifying their inability to attend and nominating a substitute attendee where appropriate.

LBSG membership commitment

LBSG members are appointed for 2 years. The time commitment required is attendance at LBSG meetings 4 times per year, plus pre-reading. Meetings are face-to-face in ATO offices in either Sydney or Melbourne. They are usually held in March, June, August and November.

Additional meetings may be conducted outside formal meeting times, but attendance is not compulsory and is subject to your availability.

Membership is expected to commence from January 2026.

Payment

Members will not be paid or reimbursed by the ATO for the cost of their time spent attending meetings or attending to related issues and are required to meet their own costs of attendance at meetings.
