On 28 August 2023, the Assistant Treasurer announced that the Government will cease the Modernising Business Registers (MBR) program following the Government’s independent review.
There are no anticipated changes to the current client experience for Business Registry Services.
Business registries which were previously administered by the Australian Securities Investment Commission (ASIC), including the companies registers, will return to ASIC, while the ATO will retain responsibility for the Australian Business Register (ABR) and the new director ID regime.
The Department of Innovation Science and Resources (DISR) will retain responsibility for hosting the Business Registration Service, ABN Lookup and SuperFund lookup.
