2023–24 R&D transparency report publishing September

Learn what data we’ll include in our next R&D transparency report and what you may need to do.

Published 2 July 2026

We're giving businesses an early heads up about publishing our next Research and Development tax incentive transparency report this September.

This report will cover R&D claims made for the 2023–24 financial year. It also includes any outstanding or amended 2022–23 and 2021–22 claims that weren't published in the previous year’s report, for income years beginning on or after 1 July 2021.

By providing transparency of how much R&D entities are reporting in R&D expenditure, this report aims to improve public accountability and voluntary compliance.

What do I need to do before it’s released?

You don't need to do anything if you're satisfied your previously submitted claim information is correct. If you’re concerned that it isn't correct, we encourage you to review it.

To confirm if your data will be in the 2023–24 report, contact your tax agent. We have sent correspondence to all registered tax agents of R&D entities who’ll have data in this report (and directly to entities who are not represented by an agent).

What the report covers

Like previous years, the report will be made up of 2 parts, the:

  • report of data published on data.gov.au
  • analysis of the data published on our website.

We’ll publish the following data from tax returns and R&D tax incentive applications, including the:

  • name of the company claiming the R&D tax incentive
  • company’s Australian business number (ABN) or Australian company number (ACN)
  • total amount the company claimed on R&D.

If your R&D data is included in this year’s report, you may want to familiarise yourself with the detailed information on R&D tax incentive transparency reports, including last year’s report.
