Last updated 28 September 2022

Overview

The following tools will help you check if you're eligible for fuel tax credits and work out the amount of fuel tax credits you can claim.

You can also get Help using the tools.

Do not use these tools if you're using ineligible fuels.

Eligibility tool

The fuel tax credit eligibility tool helps you find out if you can claim fuel tax credits for fuel you acquire and use in your business.

To find out if you're eligible to claim fuel tax credits for domestic electricity generation and non-profit emergency vehicles and vessels, see Fuel tax credits – non-business.

Calculator

The fuel tax credit calculator helps you work out:

  • the fuel tax credit amount to report on your business activity statement (BAS)
  • adjustments for fuel tax credits from a previous BAS.

From 30 March 2022 until 28 September 2022, the fuel tax credit rate temporarily reduced. The fuel tax credit rate for fuel used in heavy vehicles for travelling on public roads during this period was zero cents per litre. This is because the road user charge exceeded the excise duty paid, reducing the fuel tax credit rate to nil. This does not apply to fuel used in heavy vehicles for powering auxiliary equipment of a heavy vehicle while travelling on a public road.
