Highlights: SMSF quarterly statistical report June 2025

Read the highlights from our June 2025 quarterly statistical report on self-managed super funds (SMSFs).

Our June 2025 quarterly statistical report on the SMSF sector is now available. Visit our Self-managed super fund statistics page to access the report and explore the latest insights.

Highlights include:

  • There are 653,062 SMSFs.
  • There are 1,203,127 members of SMSFs.
  • The total estimated assets of SMSFs are $1.05 trillion.
  • The top asset types held by SMSFs (by value) are:
    • listed shares (28% of total estimated SMSF assets)
    • cash and term deposits (16%).
  • 53% of SMSF members are male and 47% are female.
  • 85% of SMSF members are 45 years or older.

This report also provides an update of the annual SMSF population analysis tables for 2019–20 to 2023–24, based on SMSF annual return data. Highlights for 2023–24 include:

  • the average assets per SMSF member were $881,000
  • the average assets per SMSF were $1.6 million
  • member contributions into SMSFs were $19.9 billion
  • employer contributions into SMSFs were $6.3 billion.
