Online application
You can access our online application form using ATO online services via your myGov account. We have information on how to create a myGov account and link it to the ATO. We recommend using a Digital ID (such as myID) for more secure and flexible access to ATO online services.
Once you are logged into ATO online services, from the home page select the heading option Super, then Manage, then Compassionate release of super.

The benefits of applying online are:
- Our online application includes a help function to help you apply correctly.
- You don't have to make copies of your evidence or send them via post.
- You will receive a receipt ID that confirms we have received your application. You can give us this receipt ID if you need to contact us to talk about your application.
- Online applications are generally processed more quickly than paper applications. Paper applications can take up to 28 days to process.
- You can view your application and the documents you provide in ATO online services at any time.
- You will receive the outcome of your application quicker. We will send our response to your myGov Inbox.
Paper application
If you don't have access to our online services to submit your application, you can request a paper application form by phoning us on 13 10 20 (8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday AEST). If you are overseas, phone us on +61 2 6216 1111 during the same hours.

Applying from overseas
If you are applying from overseas:
- copies of documents you provide to support your application must be certified as true and correct copies of the original document
- you must arrange for documents in another language to be translated into English and certified as a true and correct copy by an authorised translation service. The translator must be accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI)External Link.

If more than one person is applying for the same expense
You can apply for the same expense as another person if all people applying need to pay different parts of the same expense. If you and another person are applying for the same expense, each person will need to:
- complete and submit a separate application
- meet the eligibility criteria
- provide the applicable evidence (including documents showing the expense is in the names of all applicants).
The sum of the amount requested in the separate applications must not be more than the total amount of the invoice or quote.
