ATO app features
The ATO app makes it easy to securely access your tax and super information in one place. You can view security messages, lock or unlock your ATO account, and verify phone calls claiming to be from us. Our app lets you quickly view your personal details, for example your tax file number (TFN), tax accounts and balances, and employment income.
At tax time, you can check if your pre-fill information is ready and track the progress of your tax return. You can use myDeductions to keep and organise your tax records.
Working with an agent
Talk to your agent about which features you should use, in addition to the security features, to complement their services.
Download and register
The ATO app is free to use and available to download from Google Play or the App Store only.
After downloading, you will need to sign in and register your device using the ATO app. You will be automatically prompted to complete this simple one-time process.
Find your details fast
As an individual or sole trader, you can quickly access your personal tax and super information in one place. Quickly view your:
- personal details including TFN
- tax agent’s details
- employment and superannuation details, including your income, tax withheld and super contributions
- tax accounts, including Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) and activity statement accounts.
Keep track of important dates
You can keep track of important lodgment and payment dates. Use the ATO app to view when they are due and action them as needed.
Get ready for tax time
Follow your tax return from start to finish. Using the ATO app, you can easily:
- check the status of pre-fill information we receive from third parties and work out if you're ready to lodge with your agent
- know in real time that your agent has lodged your tax return
- check the progress of your tax return once lodged
- view the outcome of your lodged return
- download and view your notice of assessment.
Make things easy for you and your agent with myDeductions
The myDeductions tool in the ATO app can help organise your tax records and conveniently keep them in one place.
Record your expenses and work-related trips and easily capture information like photos of your receipts and invoices throughout the year. Then once you have done this for all your records, you can:
- email your data either to yourself or your tax agent
- upload your data to pre-fill your tax return, ready for you and your tax agent.
The records you add to myDeductions are stored locally on your device and are only sent to us if you upload your completed records to your tax return.
Helping you stay safe online
Registering your device using the ATO app enables features that keep your personal information secure.
Real-time messages
The ATO app will alert you in real time when important changes are made to your ATO account and request that you verify certain ATO online services transactions, so you can act if something doesn’t look right.
Account lock and unlock
If you are concerned about unauthorised access to your ATO account, you can keep it safe by locking it using the ATO app. Once locked, only the ATO and your registered tax agent can access your details, make changes or lodge returns.
If you locked your account because of suspected fraud, you must phone us as soon as possible to discuss your concerns. We may put further controls in place to protect your information.
While your account is locked, you can access ATO app security features however you won't be able to access most personalised ATO app features or log in to ATO online services.
When it's safe to unlock your account, use the same registered device that you locked it with to unlock it from within the app.
Verify call
If you receive a phone call claiming to be from the ATO, you can verify if the call is genuinely from us using the ATO app on your registered device.
