Help clients stay safe and secure with myID sign in

Your clients trust you to help protect their identity and ATO account.

With tax time underway and cyber threats continuing to evolve, there has never been a better time for proactive conversations with clients about their online security. If someone’s identity is compromised, it impacts their access to ATO online services, and can result in additional stress, delays and effort during a peak period.

As a trusted adviser, you play an important role in helping clients understand and adopt secure online practices that reduce the risk of unauthorised access to their tax and super information.

We're continuing to strengthen our systems to protect client information and combat fraud. Together, we play an important role in helping clients maintain secure access to online services and protecting the integrity of the tax system.

We encourage you to talk to your clients about:

  • setting up and using myID as a secure way to access ATO online services through myGov or the ATO app
  • setting up or increasing their myID identity strength to Strong if they can – this provides the most secure sign-in option
  • using a Strong myID to sign in if they’ve previously been compromised – this provides them secure and ongoing access to ATO online services without needing to call.

Acting early can help protect your clients from fraud, safeguard their personal information and support the continued integrity of Australia's tax and superannuation systems.

Discuss and share our myID factsheets with your clients to help them strengthen their online security and stay protected. Visit ato.gov.au/myIDfactsheets.
