Online services for individuals and sole traders

If you're a sole trader, you can prepare, lodge and pay your business activity statements (BAS), manage your tax registrations and update your Australian business number (ABN) details using Online services for individuals and sole traders.

You will need a myGov account linked to the ATO.

Online services for business

You can do most of your business reporting using Online services for business. It's the main tool for businesses to manage their tax and deal with us online.

You can use Online services for business to:

  • lodge your BAS
  • add or cancel registrations, such as GST and PAYG withholding
  • create payment plans
  • check your tax account balance
  • request transfers and refunds
  • update your business registration details
  • manage authorised contacts
  • send and receive mail through a secure mailbox.

To access Online services for business, you need to have a Digital ID linked to your business in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM). Once set up, you will use your Digital ID to log in.

We have an Online services for business user guide which details the transactions and reporting available from the service.

Standard Business Reporting software

Standard Business Reporting (SBR) makes online record-keeping easier.

When you have SBR-enabled business accounting software you can also prepare and lodge reports, forms and statements to us.

Your SBR-enabled software uses a credential that allows you to securely submit information to us. If you use:

  • online (cloud) software, you don't need to create a credential as your software provider will do this. If your software provider asks you to notify us, you must do this to ensure you can continue to interact with us securely using your cloud software.
  • desktop or locally hosted software, you'll need to create a machine credentialExternal Link using RAM.
