Nominate to become a member of the GST Stewardship Group
We are calling for expressions of interest from industry and community representatives to become members of the GST Stewardship Group. To submit an EOI:
- prepare a brief statement (no more than 500 words) addressing the key criteria
- email your resume and brief statement to GSTStewardshipGroup@ato.gov.au with the subject line 'EOI – GST Stewardship Group Membership'
- nominations close 31 July 2026

We expect to notify applicants in October 2026.
Key criteria
Applicants should address the following key criteria:
- capacity and commitment to attend meetings
- skills and experience to actively contribute to group discussions, constructively challenge, provide insights and suggestions
- ability to
- act as GST stewards and take a whole-of-system view
- identify opportunities to improve the administration of the GST system
- contribute to discussions, providing industry and community insights into issues impacting GST compliance and the taxpayer experience
- effectively share information with your networks, including communicating our meeting’s outcomes with them.
About GST Stewardship Group membership
Membership reflects the broader community with which the ATO seeks to consult and comprises representatives from different but relevant sectors of the community. Membership is at the discretion of the ATO co-chair and is subject to the relevance of a stakeholder’s knowledge and expertise of the subject matter, and their potential to contribute to outcomes.
Membership expectations
Members will actively contribute to the work of the group and abide by the ATO consultation framework. Expectations of members include:
- disclosing any matters that could be perceived to be, or are, conflicts of interest and taking appropriate action to manage/mitigate those conflicts
- maintaining the confidentiality of information shared or obtained through participation in the group
- meeting legislative requirements regarding their personal tax obligations
- attending meetings or, in a timely manner, notifying their inability to attend and nominating a substitute attendee where appropriate.
Successful nominees will be required to complete an integrity declaration annually.
Membership commitment
Members are appointed for 2 years. The time commitment required is one day for attendance at GST Stewardship Group meetings 3 times per year, plus pre-reading. Meetings are face-to-face in ATO offices in either Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra.
Short, ad-hoc meetings may be conducted outside formal meeting times where appropriate, but attendance is not compulsory and is subject to your availability.
Membership is expected to commence from late 2026.
Payment
Members will not be paid or reimbursed by the ATO for the cost of their time spent attending meetings or attending to related issues.
Professional association members are required to meet their own costs of attendance at meetings.
