Our data and payment system, SuperStream Contributions v3.0 upgrades are central to supporting Payday Super. While the upgrades are technical in nature, they go beyond a system upgrade and will change how your self-managed super fund (SMSF) receives and processes contributions from unrelated employers.
Key changes
Clearer, validated error messaging
Error handling is a key focus area of the upgrade. Systems will need to generate structured, consistent and actionable error messages, and validate them before sending.
This means:
- errors should be picked up earlier
- incorrect or incomplete information is more likely to be rejected straight away
- employers and administrators can fix issues faster.
Gateway providers require correctly formed messages, increasing the reliance on accurate error messages from your SMSF to resolve issues quickly.
Member verification request (MVR)
MVR is a new service that allows employers to check whether a fund, including your SMSF, can accept a contribution before the first payment is made.
From 1 July 2026 you need to respond to MVRs within 24 hours. Your administrator or software provider will usually manage this on your behalf.
Near real-time payments through the New Payments Platform (NPP)
The NPP allows near real-time payments between participating financial institutions 24 hours a day. Payments can carry more information than traditional transfers, making it easier to identify and reconcile transactions.
Your SMSF must be capable of receiving employer contributions through the NPP from 1 July 2026. You can engage with your bank, administrator and gateway to test NPP payments.
Fund validation service changes
Updates to the Fund Validation Service also support faster processing and fewer errors. A new version will replace the current service from 1 July 2026.
Funds that don’t adopt the updated service will increase the risk of errors.
