    Data and Analytics jobs

    Our data program works with one of the largest data collections in the Australian Government. Our data is a critical asset. It presents complex challenges for how we manage and use it for the benefit of staff, clients and partner agencies.

    Working with us, you'll develop the data and analytics capability of the ATO to drive the evolution and ensure it is a data driven intelligent enterprise.

    Data scientist

    Data scientists use in-depth knowledge of data mining and modelling techniques, programming skills and business knowledge. This supports the development, delivery and analysis of large-scale strategic initiatives in support of the government and community.

    As a Data scientist you'll:

    • clean, transform and combine datasets, using statistical, machine-learning and related methods to discover patterns and trends in data.
    • develop classification and prediction models and produce visualisations to communicate findings to business stakeholders.
    • use a variety of tools and languages and your technical knowledge to analyse and interpret data and results.

    You may also lead or support a small team of Data scientists and other analytics staff.

    Data engineer

    As an EL1 Data engineer you'll undertake technical and administrative activities to design, build, test and maintain data and analytics solutions.

    As a Data engineer, you'll:

    • use techniques to integrate structured and unstructured data for use in analytics applications.
    • develop technical solutions to improve access to data.
    • optimise data usage and connect systems to data and analytics outputs.
    • write responsible, optimised, tested and quality assured code to deliver business outcomes.
