Taxation Boards of Review (Transfer of Jurisdiction) Bill 1986

Taxation Boards of Review (Transfer of Jurisdiction) Act 1986

Explanatory Memorandum

(Circulated by authority of the Treasurer, the Hon. P.J. Keating, M.P.)

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The proposed transfer of the jurisdiction of the Taxation Boards of Review to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal will have no direct revenue consequences, although, to the extent that the Tribunal is able to reduce the backlog of requests for reference, there will be some earlier than otherwise collection of outstanding tax.

The bringing into line with income tax of the appeal rights in the various other taxation laws will have no revenue consequences.

The proposal to refund the $2.00 statutory deposit paid in respect of requests for reference to Taxation Boards of Review and appeals to Supreme Courts will have a negligible cost in 1986-87 and no effect in future years. The measure will result in some administrative savings.
