Explanatory Memorandum

This memorandum takes account of amendments made by the Senate to the bill as introduced and supersedes the explanatory memorandum tabled in the Senate

Notes on clauses

Clause 1 - Short title

102. Clause 1 would provide that this Act may be cited as the Tribunals Amalgamation Act 2014.

Clause 2 - Commencement

103. Clause 2 would provide for the commencement of each provision of the Bill.

Clause 3 - Schedules

104. This clause would provide that any legislation specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the Schedule and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.

Clause 4 - Review of operation of amendments

105. Clause 4 would require the Minister to cause a review of the operation of the amendments made by the Bill to be undertaken as soon as practicable after the end of 3 years after Schedule 1 to the Bill commences. The review would consider the effect of the amendments and any other related matter specified by the Minister. The person undertaking the review would be required to give a written report to the Minister within 6 months of the end of the 3 year period, and the Minister would be required to table the report in each House of Parliament within 15 sitting days of receiving it.
