SECTION 255
PERIOD OF APPOINTMENT
General rule
255(1)
An appointed member holds office for the period specified in the instrument of appointment. The period must not exceed 5 years.
Exception - appointment for specified project
255(2)
An instrument appointing an appointed member may state that the member is appointed for the purpose of taking part in a project specified in the instrument that is being, or is to be, undertaken by the Council.
255(3)
If an instrument appointing an appointed member contains such a statement: (a) the member is to take part in the project and has the rights of a Council member only for the purposes of taking part in the project; and (b) despite subsection (1) , if the appointment has not ceased under subsection (1) and has not been terminated under section 261 - the appointment ceases when the Chair of the Council certifies, in writing, that the Council has finished the project.
