Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956
Subject to subregulation (2) , the importation of mercury into Australia is prohibited unless: (a) a permission to import the mercury has been granted in writing under any of the following:
(i) the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Administration) Regulations 1995 ;
(ii) the Industrial Chemicals (General) Rules 2019 ;
(b) the permission is produced to a Collector.
(iii) the Therapeutic Goods Regulations 1990 ; and

Subregulation (1) does not apply to the importation of mercury from a Party to the Minamata Convention.
