Subject: Assessability of income received from a home stay arrangement
Question
Is the income you receive under a home stay arrangement assessable income?
Answer
No.
The income you receive for the students you have staying with you under the Home Stay arrangement is not assessable income in accordance with ATO ID 2001/381.
This ruling applies for the following period:
Year ended 30 June 2019
The scheme commenced on:
1 July 2018
Relevant facts and circumstances
During the 2019 income year you had X students staying with you under a Home Stay arrangement.
You had a X student for 6 months on and off while they were waiting to find another place to stay or go back to their country of origin.
X student was the friend of a Home Stay student.
You supply a bedroom, linen, meals, etc to the home Stay students.
