Are you entitled to a deduction for the cost of replacing the stumps of your rental property as a repair?
Answer
Yes. Your expenses meet the requirements in Taxation Ruling TR 97/23 and are deductible. Further information about repairs can be found by searching 'QC 23635 on ato.gov.au

Relevant facts and circumstances
You own the property.
The stumps were required to be replaced due to termite damage.
These stumps were replaced with the same material.
The stumps were replaced in a number of repairs.
The first repair was the removal and replacement of several stumps.
The subsequent repairs were the removal and replacement of several more stumps.
You have paid for these expenses from a joint account with your spouse.
This account receives the rent and the expenses are paid from it.
