    We recommend you have your tax file number (TFN) ready when you call to assist with locating your tax records.

    It will make it quicker and easier for us to help you if you have information with you to establish your identity when you call. Refer to the Speak to a customer service representative section below for more details.

    All times are local unless specified otherwise. On Australian national public holidays our contact centres are closed throughout Australia. In the case of state based public holidays, only those states affected will be closed.

    Establishing your identity

    We need to establish your identity before discussing or updating your tax record or one you're authorised for. We will ask you a series of questions based on information we hold about you, including information from third parties and other Government departments.

    Some of the questions may relate to:

    • Lodgments or applications made to us
    • Your superannuation
    • Letters we have sent you
    • Your tax accounts such as refunds, debts or payments
    • Investments you hold
    • Your employment

    In some circumstances, we may use additional identification documents such as your passport or driver's license to complete our identity process.

    To save time, we recommend you use voice authentication for a fast and secure way to verify your identity over the phone. When you call us, ask to enrol your unique voiceprint. If you enrol, you can then use your voice to verify your identity for future calls.

    We will need to establish your identity by asking a series of privacy questions and using details from one of the following identification documents:
